Setting up Color-Coded File Boxes

I found a system on familysearch.org back in 2000 and tweaked it. I looked for it again and it is now gone. However, on the Facebook group, "The Organized Genealogist" Kaye M. posted that the originator of the system was Mary Hill. You can find the base of my system here: The FamilyRoots Organizer Color-Coding System.

I followed her suggestion of choosing 4 colors one for each of your grandparents. The standard practice is blue for the paternal grandfather, green for the paternal grandmother, red for the maternal grandfather, and yellow for the maternal grandmother. Then using tabs on hanging folders divide each color into four tabbed sections one for each of your great-great-grandparents.

Pedigree chart showing the four colors and then the names used for the four sections.
