Setting Up Folders

I purchased colored files so at a glance if I have a folder out I know which family it belongs to. And more importantly, I liked the way it looked. 

I set up the left tab to be direct line, the center tab to be their children, and the third tab to be their grandchildren.

Left tab has direct ancestors listed, Middle tab is their children, Right tab is their grandchildren.  

Direct Line: List direct lines’ last name in Bold and the birth year listed.

Children of Direct Line: The direct descendent is underlined and the birth year listed. These are then filed in order of birth. If a child was unmarried and reached adulthood a separate folder should be made.

Grandchildren of Direct Line: Direct descendent is underlined and birth year listed. These are then filed in order of birth.
